White Diet Guide
This guide is general education only - it is not medical advice and ScopeCoach is not a medical device. Hospitals differ, so always follow your own bowel preparation instructions. If they differ from this guide, your hospital's instructions win.
What is the white diet?
The white diet is a short-term, low-fibre eating phase used in some Australian colonoscopy instructions. It focuses on plain foods that leave less residue in the bowel. Your hospital may use different timing or food rules, so follow its written instructions first.
Foods commonly included
- White bread or toast
- White rice and plain pasta
- Chicken, eggs or plain white fish
- Cheese, plain yoghurt or milk if your instructions allow dairy
- Low-fibre cereals such as Rice Bubbles or Corn Flakes
Foods commonly avoided
- Wholegrain bread, brown rice and wholemeal pasta
- Fresh fruit, salad and most vegetables
- Nuts, seeds and high-fibre cereals
- Corn and foods containing visible skins, seeds or grains
- Red meat if your hospital's white-diet instructions exclude it
Simple reminder
When unsure, check your hospital's list rather than guessing. The diet stage and the clear-fluid stage are different.
