Bowel Clarity Guide
How bowel preparation usually changes
As bowel preparation works, bowel motions generally become more liquid, lighter and clearer. The aim described by many hospitals is pale yellow or clear liquid without solid material.
Typical progression
- Brown and cloudy with solid particles: not clear yet
- Orange-brown liquid with small particles: progressing
- Light yellow liquid with very few particles: getting closer
- Very pale yellow or transparent liquid with no solid particles: commonly the desired appearance
Contact your hospital
Contact your hospital or procedure unit if you are still passing brown stool or solid material close to your procedure, nothing is happening despite following the instructions, you cannot finish or keep down the preparation, or you are worried about your symptoms.
Important
ScopeCoach cannot assess whether you are ready for a procedure. Only your healthcare team can advise you about your individual preparation.
